Sussex Realtors Attend National Conference in San Diego

As they do every year, a contingent from the Sussex County Association of Realtors (SCAOR) spent several days recently with thousands of their colleagues from throughout the country at the annual convention of the National Association of Realtors (NAR).

SCAOR 2015 President Fred Dean, along with past presidents Brad Riedle, Bob McVey and Bruce Plummer, incoming president Frank Serio, incoming president-elect Brigit Taylor and Chief Executive Officer Ruth Briggs King were in San Diego from Nov. 13-16, attending educational seminars on issues of importance to the nation’s real estate community.

“Realtors are known for their efforts in advancing real estate policies and strengthening local communities, and that work ripples out in ways that have a broader impact, says Dean. “The conference was another opportunity for me and other Realtors to reflect on the successes we shared this year and strategize to further build on those efforts in 2016. “That means redoubling the efforts to keep real estate matters at the front of the political agenda and solving issues that are holding back a full restoration of the nation’s real estate markets.”

Every November, Realtors from across the United States come together for the annual four-day conference and expo. The gathering includes more than 100 educational sessions, most led by speakers who are experts in their respective fields.

There are also hundreds of vendors on hand, presenting tools for Realtors, as well as networking opportunities and special events. This year’s theme was “Be Here. It’s Your Time to Shine,” meant to build on the momentum established in recent years of recovery and growth nationwide. Among the panelists and speakers at the 2015 convention were NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun, Federal Housing Administration Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Ed Golding, Charlie Cook, political analyst and publisher of the “Cook Political Report,” Jonathan Corr, president and CEO of Ellie Mae and Jim Costello, senior vice president of Real Capital Analytics.

There were also senior staff members on hand from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Aviation Administration and Moody’s Analytics.

Approximately 20,000 Realtors and guests attended the 2015 convention. The Sussex County Association of Realtors was chartered in 1949 and has steadily grown in size, scope and mission during its more than six decades in Sussex County. It is a professional trade association with goals of carrying out a program of education and advocacy for real estate in the county.

SCAOR is a resource for the public, as well as a recognized advocate for property rights and property owners in Sussex County. The association also monitors legislative issues on the local, state and national levels that may impact home ownership in the area.
