Sussex County Real Estate
The real estate in Sussex County is as diverse as the residents. Being the largest county in Delaware, Sussex County has much to offer. Individuals that choose Sussex County as their home will find many housing opportunities. Whether it is a small farm, a large agricultural track, a second home, historic property, your primary residence or a multi family unit, they are available in Sussex County.
The Sussex County Association of REALTORS® has an Internet site, www.scaor.com which is a valuable tool to the public, allowing them to see at many of the properties for sale in Sussex County from the comfort of their own home. This website also has valuable information about the real estate profession.
Centrally located are the towns of Milford, Georgetown, Milton & Millsboro. Eastern Sussex County includes Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island. In Southern Sussex County you will find Selbyville and Delmar and on the Western side of the County you will find Bridgeville, Greenwood, Seaford, Laurel and Delmar. There are numerous other small communities located throughout the county.
Milford was founded in 1680 and incorporated in 1807 and is located on the north and south side of the Mispillion River. It has the unique distinction of being in both Kent and Sussex County. Historic homes, rural communities and beach properties located at Slaughter Beach can be found here.
Milton was founded and incorporated in 1807 and is located at the head of the Broadkill River. There are 198 homes are on the National Register and the town has many examples of 18th and 19th century architecture. It was also known for its shipbuilding and agricultural endeavors.
Georgetown was founded and incorporated in 1791 and is the county seat of Sussex County by virtue of its location in the middle of the county. The town is rich in history and is listed in the National Historic Register. Not only will you find beautiful restored historic homes but the town and areas around Georgetown have many newer homes and developments.
Millsboro was founded in 1860 and incorporated in 1893 and is also on the National Historic Register. You will find the same beautifully restored historic homes as many other areas of Sussex County as well as beautiful tree lined streets and quiet communities.
Lewes founded in 1631 and incorporated in 1883 is on Delaware Bay rather than the Atlantic Ocean. It is know for its fishing marinas and historic buildings and homes. Many of the homes have been carefully renovated; however, it also has many new home developments as well as condominiums and town homes.
Rehoboth Beach is known as a resort area. It was founded in 1873. Rehoboth Beach has beautiful beaches and is a thriving summer retreat for thousands of people. Real estate is as diverse as the population that visits and/or lives there. Much like Lewes, Rehoboth has historic buildings as well as new home developments.
Dewey Beach is located just south of Rehoboth Beach and was incorporated in 1981. The town is 21 blocks long and has approximately 2000 property owners. It has the Atlantic Ocean on its eastern border and Rehoboth Bay on its western side. Single family homes as well as multi family complexes can be found here.
Bethany Beach is known as the “Quiet Resort”. It was founded in the early 1900's and incorporated in 1984. This area has many quaint cottages, single family home communities as well as Condominium and Waterfront developments. Just minutes from Fenwick Island and Ocean City, Maryland, it is a popular area for primary residents as well as visitors.
Fenwick Island was founded and incorporated in 1953 and is located on the Maryland/Delaware border. Known for its historic lighthouse; single family homes as well as multi family developments are available in Fenwick Island.
Selbyville was founded in 1778 and incorporated in 1902 and is at the head of the St. Martin’s River. Selbyville also is host to many historic homes and newer communities. Delmar founded in 1859 is east of the Southern end of the Mason Dixon line. It is one of the rare US communities divided by state lines, Delaware and Maryland, and is named after its two mother states. Many historic property as well as newer homes can be found here.
Seaford also located on the western side of Sussex County was founded in 1726. The Nanticoke River is known for its hunting and fishing and offers residents many waterfront opportunities. Homes of all types can be found in Seaford.
Laurel is located on the western side of Sussex County and was founded in 1683. Additionally, Laurel is host to more buildings on the Historic Register than any other town in Delaware. As with other towns in Delaware, Laurel can offer you either any type of property you desire, be it historic or a newer home.
